From addiction to ownership

Respect My Energy was born out of resilience, second chances, and the belief that the journey is just as important as the destination.

At 32, I found myself at a crossroads, having left Georgia with nothing but two bags of clothes and a past full of mistakes. I was a former addict and a felon, someone who had hit rock bottom and was searching for a way out of the life I had known. With no concrete plans, I took a leap of faith and moved to Michigan. Little did I know, that leap would be the first step toward something greater than I ever imagined.

Two years later, I became a father to a little boy who changed everything. He became my world, my inspiration, and my strength. Around that same time, I was blessed with an opportunity to work for one of the Big Three automakers, Ford, where I eventually became a supervisor. But as the demands of life grew, so did my desire to be more present for my son. Co-parenting wasn't easy, and the time I spent away from him weighed heavily on me. I knew I needed to create something that would not only allow me to be more involved in his life but also leave behind a legacy he could one day be proud of.

That’s when the idea for Respect My Energy, a dream I had carried with me for years, began to take shape. I believed in the power of manifestation, in the energy we all carry and how it shapes our lives. I wanted to build something from the ground up—a brand that represented not just survival but thriving, overcoming obstacles, and honoring our personal energy. I knew I had to just go for it, and my son was my biggest motivation to make it happen.

Respect My Energy is more than a brand. It’s a symbol of perseverance, a reminder that no matter where we come from or what we’ve been through, we have the power to change our path. This company was created with the belief that respecting our energy is the first step in respecting ourselves and others. It’s about lifting each other up and building something lasting.

Today, as I continue to grow this business, I do so with my son in mind. He is my why—my reason for pushing forward, for believing in my vision, and for never giving up. One day, I hope to pass this company on to him, teaching him not just about entrepreneurship but about resilience, self-respect, and the power of believing in your dreams.
